Background

GoDocs (formerly LoanDocSolutions) was founded in 1997 by Gary Highland, a noted real estate finance attorney and document automation expert. Before founding GoDocs, Gary Highland was a partner at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, a renowned law firm founded in 1873, with offices throughout the world. Mr. Highland was the senior partner in the real estate finance group of the firm’s Southern California offices. Over the years he has represented many of the largest and most prestigious lending institutions in the United States.

Mr. Highland developed a reputation for using automation in his law practice. Much of the software used by GoDocs today was first developed by Mr. Highland.

Among the first “software as a service” providers on the Internet, GoDocs has evolved its software platform to the point where most loan document packages can be prepared on a fully-automated basis.

Widely recognized for the quality of its documents and excellent customer service, GoDocs software prepares loan closing documents for lenders ranging from major national institutions to regional and local banks, credit unions, and private lenders.

GARY HIGHLAND

President

Gary Highland was born in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois where he resided through his freshman year of college at the University of Illinois. Mr. Highland completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Irvine, where he received a B.A. degree in social sciences in 1976. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Law Center in 1979. While there, he served as Notes Editor for the Southern California Law Review.

Since graduating from law school, Gary Highland’s law practice has been focused exclusively on representation of lenders in commercial real estate finance transactions. Mr. Highland developed a reputation for using automation in his law practice, and has been featured in numerous articles on document automation and law office technology. 

Mr. Highland is a member of the Orange County and American Bar Associations, the State Bar of California, American Mensa and The Pacific Club. Gary Highland has resided in Newport Beach, California for many years, where he lives with his family including three children. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, reading, movies, photography and cooking.

REN R HAYHURST

General Counsel

Ren R Hayhurst completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah, where he received degrees (all magna cum laude) in Political Science, Psychology, and International Relations. Ren received his Juris Doctor degree (Order of the Coif) from the University of Utah in 1987. While there, Ren served as a Law Clerk for Justice Christine Durham, the Chief Justice of the Utah Supreme Court. Ren also graduated from the Wharton Business School’s Executive Management and Executive Leadership programs at the University of Pennsylvania.

Since graduating from law school, Ren’s law practice has focused on the representation of lenders in commercial structured finance transactions. Over the years, Ren has represented many of the nation’s most significant national banking associations, life insurance companies, and CMBS lenders. Ren has handled transactions in all 50 states and drafted many of the loan document forms still used by his clients.

Before joining GoDocs in 2019, Ren was a senior partner in the commercial finance group of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (“BCLP”), one of the largest international law firms, with offices around the world. During his 30 years at BCLP, Ren served in many management positions, including managing partner of the firm’s Southern California offices, coordinator of the firm’s Asia operations, and other various senior management positions.

Ren has taught multiple law and business classes at the University of California, Irvine, and is a frequent lecturer for law schools and other educational institutions, speaking on commercial financing issues, law firm management topics, and business development matters.

Ren has been married to his childhood sweetheart for over 36 years. They have 3 daughters.

CHRISTOPHER ALLISON

Customer Support Manager

Christopher Allison received his Bachelor’s Degree in political science from the University of Arizona.

An expert in commercial real estate loan documentation, Christopher manages the GoDocs customer support team consisting of document specialists and real estate finance attorneys.

Before joining GoDocs, Christopher was a research associate for CoStar Group, Inc. Prior to that Christopher was a foreign English teacher at the ChungDam Institute in Incheon, South Korea.

In his free time, Christopher enjoys spending time with his family, including two young children.
